About me
I’m a guy with a blog. I suppose you figured that out already. Alright, I’m a guy from Missouri who lives in Chicago. While pondering what I wanted to do when I grow up, I noticed that I had grown up, so hopefully this is it. By day I’m a mild-mannered Ph.D. student in theology at the University of Chicago and by night I fight monsters and save the world from evil. Or at least I have a character on World of Warcraft who does. As you can probably tell by, among other things, the title of this blog, I’m a Methodist and proud of it (though I worship with Episcopalians these days), and I’m somewhere in ordination process purgatory. I have served as a student pastor and a chaplain in several settings, and I get to preach fairly often. I multi-class as a pastor and a theologian. It’s kind of a pain actually, but what can I say? The wand chooses the wizard.
You should also know that I find the idea of keeping of a blog somewhat distasteful, as I believe John Wesley would have. That said, I totally think he would have had one. For one thing, it’s a great tool to spread scriptural holiness throughout the internet. But more importantly, he loved to opine on various matters whenever the mood suited him. I share this quality with him, so I too now have a blog.
I used to think of this as a theology blog. I suppose it still is, but I spend enough time writing about theology. My scholarly interests will no doubt make appearances, but this will mostly be stuff that doesn’t have anything to do with my dissertation. Let’s say it’s theology in my own voice rather than my academic voice.
Eah, that’s probably not true. If it were my own voice, I would cuss more.
Thank you for stopping by.
